Kordes & Kordes Film

In 2003 the sisters Alexandra and Meike Kordes founded Kordes & Kordes in Berlin. Since then, the company has successfully produced films and television movies that have received 170 national and international awards so far. VIER MINUTEN received the German Film Award in Gold, the Golden Cup at the International Film Festival Shanghai and garnered the sisters the VGF Newcomer Award for Producing at the Bavarian Film Award. POLL won the Special Award at the Rome International Film Festival and the main award at the Minsk International Film Festival. EIN JAHR NACH MORGEN won the Günter-Rohrbach Award and FAMILIE LOTZMANN AUF DEN BARRIKADEN was awarded the Grimme Award. 

Their family film, DIE SCHULE DER MAGISCHEN TIERE, based on the eponymous children’s book bestseller by Margit Auer topped the German box office with a total of 1,7 million tickets sold in 2021/22.

The company produced international co-productions with countries such as France, Estonia, Austria, Poland, and Switzerland.

In addition to their headquarters in Berlin, Kordes & Kordes Film has offices in Stuttgart and Cologne and in 2007 the Munich offices, Kordes & Kordes Film South, opened its doors.

MEIKE KORDES

Producer / Managing Partner – Kordes & Kordes Film 

Meike Kordes is a member of the German and the European Film Academy. She is chair of the main board and a board member of the theatrical section of the German Producers Alliance and a member of the Business Leader Advisory Council of the Berliner Volksbank. As a representative of the Producers Alliance Meike Kordes served as a jury member at the FFA for seven years and the BKM (Minister of State for Culture and the Media). She teaches at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf and the DFFB Berlin in the production division.

In 2007 after being name Producer on the Move by the European Film Promotion she attended the Cannes International Film Festival as part of the program.

Meike Kordes produced her sister’s shorts, while they both attended the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, including LATE AT NIGHT (Silver Bear, Berlinale). In addition she worked on productions outside of film school. In the capacity of production manager, for example, she worked on films such as the award-winning SCHERBENTANZ (Chris Kraus), BERLIN IS IN GERMANY (Hannes Stöhr |Panorama Audience Award Berlinale) and DIE KÖNIGIN (Werner Schroeter |Arte Documentary Award| Main Award, Duisburg Film Week). 

She completed a management assistant apprenticeship and graduated from the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf with a degree in producing.

ALEXANDRA KORDES

Producer / Partner – Kordes & Kordes Film 

Alexandra Kordes is a member of the German Producers’ Alliance, the German Film Academy and an advisor at the screenwriting program Münchner Drehbuchwerkstatt since 2009.

She served as a juror on several award juries, including the Bernd Burgemeister TV Award, the Tankred Dorst Screenwriting Award and the German Cinema New Talent Award at the Munich International Film Festival as well as the Thomas Pluch Screenwriting Award at the Diagonale Film Festival in Graz.

Alexandra Kordes started making films at a young age, most of the time with production support from her sister Meike. Their collaboration continued throughout their formal education at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, resulting in the short film LATE AT NIGHT (Silver Bear, Berlinale). While studying film, with a focus on cinematography, she worked on fictional films and documentaries including Rosa von Praunheim’s WUNDERBARES WRODOW (Robert Geisendörfer Award) and on Werner Schroeter’s DIE KÖNIGIN (Arte Documentary Award | Main Award, Duisburg Film Week). 

She studied theater-, film and television studies, German literature and psychology at the Ruhr University Bochum and later cinematography at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf graduation successfully with a degree.
