Nineteen year-old Nike (Anna Maria Mühe) lives with her father on a small farm close to Hannover. She is training for a position with the Immigration Authority with her best friend Suse (Susanne Bormann). Nike is forced to take over her parents' business when her father (Hansjürgen Hürrig) is left bedridden by a heart attack. To her horror, Nike discovers that the farm is on the verge of bankruptcy and that most of the workers are illegal immigrants. Nike's life, along with her relationship to her best friend Suse, changes rapidly. Despite Suse's reservations, Nike initiates a careful friendship with the Bosnian Milena (Lea Mornar). For the first time in her life, at the brink of making a fundamental decision, Nike knows what she's fighting for.
